Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla trekking is Buutu Safaris' signature experience, and for many travellers the reason they come to Africa. After an early-morning briefing at the park headquarters, you set off in a small group with expert guides and trackers, hiking through dense, misty rainforest in search of a habituated family of mountain gorillas. The trek can last anywhere from one to six hours depending on where the gorillas have moved, leading you through steep, forested terrain that is as beautiful as it is wild. When you finally reach them, you're granted one unforgettable hour in their presence, watching silverbacks, mothers and playful youngsters just metres away. Found only in the forests of Uganda, Rwanda and the DR Congo, fewer than 1,100 mountain gorillas remain on earth, and standing among them is a profound, humbling encounter you'll carry for the rest of your life.
